The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)’s Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI) and the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) recently announced their collaboration to provide a benchmark and recognition tool for social compliance schemes in the seafood sector.

GSSI and SSCI will have more meaningful impact by joining forces, building on existing efforts and aligning market expectations towards third-party auditing and certification programs. Similar to GSSI’s Global Benchmark Tool, the SSCI Benchmark will allow stakeholders to have access to a list of credible, robust auditing and certification programs. In close collaboration, the two organizations will develop a social compliance benchmark that takes into account the specificities of the seafood sector, will be underpinned by ILO Conventions and Recommendations and UN Guiding Principles.

GIZ is pleased to invite all interested parties to kick-off the collaboration with a seafood stakeholder consultation. The workshop will inform participants about the objectives and next steps of the collaboration and offer a first opportunity to provide input regarding the specificities of social compliance in the seafood sector with a focus on processing facilities. A glimpse on next steps for other parts of the supply chain will be provided. Please RSVP to get the relevant documents ahead.
