Julie Qiu

Marketing Director - Australis Aquaculture

Biography

Julie Qiu is the Marketing Director for Australis Aquaculture, the world’s largest vertically-integrated barramundi producer. Julie is focused on increasing brand engagement and building demand from consumers and food professionals. She also leads communications at Greener Grazing, a groundbreaking initiative developed by Australis to close the life cycle and initiate commercial production of Asparagopsis taxiformis, a seaweed which can dramatically reduce methane emissions from ruminant animals when supplemented at 1% of their diet.

Prior to joining Australis, Julie cultivated over 10 years of branding and marketing experience at leading creative agencies in New York City. While building some of the world’s most iconic brands, including Jaguar, Starwood Hotels, State Farm, Anheuser-Busch, and ExxonMobil, she simultaneously developed a passion for sustainable seafood through oysters.

Julie is the founder of In A Half Shell, a website dedicated to global oyster appreciation. As an Oyster Sommelier, Julie has been covered by Vogue, The Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Tech Insider, NPR, Huffington Post, and Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. She is the co-author of 33 Oysters on the Half Shell tasting journal, New York Oyster Map, and teaches an online Oyster Masterclass through Skillshare.

Currently serving as a Seafood Nutrition Partnership Ambassador and Professional Advisor to the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School, Julie is also a member of Chefs Collaborative, International Foodservice Editorial Council, and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University in Business Administration and Communication Design.
