Thailand is one of the world's leading seafood producers, as importers and exporters of fishery products worldwide. Seafood products are derived from aquaculture and wild capture. Sustainable development of fisheries sector in all dimensions, therefore, is a very crucial policy of Thailand which will likely affect the food security for the world population.
Dr. Adisorn Promthep has extensive experiences in rural development policy and coastal resources management. He also served as Minister of Counselor (Agriculture) at the Office of Agricultural Affairs in Belgium and Washington D.C. USA where are ranking in the top five importers of fish and fisheries products in the world. He comprehends through the direction and concerns of global fisheries. When he became the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries in 2016, he initiated a policy of "Fisheries reform" which included in terms of fisheries, aquaculture and fish processing. In particularly in aquaculture, he aims to improve the entire supply chain of Thai aquaculture to meet international standards in term of its systems, environmentally friendly, hygiene and sanitary to ensure that seafood products from Thailand are free from IUU fishing, forced labor and trafficking through administrative manner focusing on the consumer and environment.
