Samut Sakhon PIPO Center Visit and Processing Plant Field Trip**
Join fellow attendees on an all day field trip. The first stop will be a tour at the Department of Fisheries Port in Port Out (PIPO) center in Samut Sakhon. Within Thailand’s 22 coastal provinces, there are 30 Port in Port out (PIPO) control centers and 21 Forward Inspection Points (FIPs) established under the command of the Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF). All commercial fishing vessels, 30 GT and over, are required to report to a PIPO center upon porting in (to check document, vessel, catch and crew) and porting out (to check document, vessel and crew). Each center embodies representatives from the Ministry of Labor, the Marine Department and the Department of Fisheries, and the Royal Thai Navy. Supervised by a naval officer, this autonomous integrative party is responsible for regulating, controlling and legally enforcing fishing vessels as they are leaving ports before fishing and entering port after fishing. They take parts principally in port inspections of both fishing vessels and catch landing in order to control fishing vessel operators in all levels regarding their fishing activities and marine catch. PIPO centers play a role in ensuring that all targeted fishing vessels shall be certain to be properly monitored electronically, to be with all relevant legal documents, to have correct and precise fishing gears and supplementary equipment of the vessels, and to be free of any suspicious labor violation issues.
After visiting the Department of Fisheries PIPO Center, attendees will enjoy a seafood lunch at a local restaurant.
The next stop will be at the Thai Union Feedmill in Samut Sakhon which has been producing and selling aquatic animal feed since 2000. The Feedmill has been producing and exporting shrimp feed, freshwater fish feed, marine fish feed and extruded feed. There will be a tour around the plant to view production as well as a viewing of shrimp trial ponds.
