Benchmarking Banks – A New Tool for Sustainable Seafood Policies

This Lightning Round will give an overview of SCRIPT – the Soft Commodity Risk Platform and the new policy benchmarking tool for seafood. This tool has been developed by the Global Canopy Programme, in collaboration with WWF, for banks who are financially invested in agricultural commodities that lead to deforestation. Now this tool has been adapted for banks to use with regards to their seafood portfolio and comes with business case and guidance documents. It allows them to compare their own seafood policies to the benchmark and understand gaps and recommendations for improvement. At the same time it informs users of where the environmental, social and governance risks currently lie in the seafood sector and what their level of importance is in terms of credit risk. Issues include, amongst other things, social issues, legality, natural habitat destruction and pollution. The tool aims to support the financial sector to mitigate risk and at the same time improve their client’s performance in sustainability. This Lightning Round will showcase the tool in a compelling and visual manner and include case studies of real-world application.
