Seize Opportunity | Create Solutions

Dates: February 9 – 11, 2015
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (Hyatt Regency)

The 2015 Seafood Summit began with a pre-conference workshop focused on traceability, addressing Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing; one of the top priorities of the Obama Administration’s commitments made during the 2014 Our Ocean Conference. Following the workshop, the Summit conference program featured pre- and post-conference field trips, panel discussions and keynote presentations on topics such as:

  • The global importance of aquaculture in meeting world protein needs;
  • Traceability and its impact on seafood value chains;
  • Fishery and aquaculture improvement projects (FIPs & AIPs);
  • Preventing human rights abuses in seafood supply chains;
  • Economic and ecosystem resilience and the role of the seafood industry; and
  • Global sustainable fishing challenges and successes.

At the conclusion of the event, the Summit offered experiential learning opportunities through two separate field trips. Participants visited oyster, shrimp and blue crab fisheries and learned about the traditional, sustainable and economically important fisheries from the people who steward the resource and bring these products to market.
